A boy’s passage is an important achievement in his life and one that holds significant meaning. This is why I included the challenge coin in the rite of passage. Such a token would distinguish his passage into manhood and confirm his membership into Brotherhood of Men.
The emblems, symbols, and inscriptions on the challenge coin relate to rite of passage ceremony and the candidates passage into manhood. On the face around the outside edge of the challenge coin is the inscription “Brotherhood of Men.” This signifies his initiation and acceptance by his elders into manhood. The “4” essentials are engraved into four quadrants signifying the four essential cornerstones of manhood. The compass in the middle signifies the
importance of using the essentials in navigating through manhood. On the outside edge of the back of the challenge coin is the inscription ”Rite of Passage” with a the compass in the middle. This is the seal which signifies he has completed the rite of passage ceremony, accepted his responsibilities as a man, and the candidate is equipped and prepared to chart his own course in life.
